After the successes with the 956 model, the first Group C, Porsche presented in 1985 an evolution, called the 962C, akin to the 962 model conceived for IMSA-GTP regulations. The 962C complied with the new safety regulations and was visually almost identical to the 956. Both with the factory team and with the numerous private stables, the 962C had a very long career, which went up to the early nineties. The 962C won the 24 Hours of Le Mans with the factory team in 1986 and 1987. Many private teams built configurations that differed a lot from the initial concept.
